Community Pride

The impact of litter extends beyond appearance alone. Arkansas is known as The Natural State for a reason. The beauty of our forests, mountains, lakes, rivers, trails, and scenic roadways is something many communities take pride in. These natural surroundings are part of what makes this area such a special place to live.
Trash left along roadsides, waterways, and public spaces can affect wildlife, create unnecessary cleanup costs, and diminish the natural beauty that so many people appreciate. A discarded bottle/drink container, food wrapper, fishing supplies, or a bag may seem insignificant on its own; over time, those small pieces of litter can have a noticeable impact on a community’s appearance. Taking a few moments to gather and properly dispose of trash keeps areas clean and enjoyable for everyone. One simple rule that applies whether visiting a park, enjoying a lake, or spending time outdoors is to take out what you bring in.
Fortunately, positive change often begins with simple actions. Keeping our communities clean isn’t solely the responsibility of local governments or volunteer groups. It starts with everyday choices. Properly disposing of trash, securing items in vehicles and trailers, and taking a moment to pick up litter when possible are simple actions that can make a meaningful difference. Community clean-up events, volunteer efforts, and individuals taking responsibility for their own trash all contribute to a cleaner and more welcoming environment.
The Ouachita Mountains are known for their scenic beauty, outdoor recreation, and strong sense of community. Preserving those qualities benefits everyone, from long-time residents to future generations. Community pride is often reflected in how we take care of the places we call home. When people work together, even small efforts can have a lasting impact. These efforts may not seem like much in the moment, but collectively they help ensure that future generations can enjoy the same landscapes and scenery that we appreciate today.
